Dick, Beau

Beau Dick was born in the isolated Southern Kwakiutl Village of Kingcome, British Columbia in 1955. He began to carve at an early age, studying under the watchful eyes of his grandfather and father, master carvers James Dick and Benjamin Dick. Beau has studied Northwest Coast design and sculpture with Robert Davidson, Doug Cranmer and Henry Hunt.

Beau is dedicated to learning about historical Kwakwaka’wakw and Northwest Coast artwork, using older pieces to fuel his creative process. Beau’s many works include masks, bowls, rattles, drums, original paintings and limited edition prints.

Beau danced and performed at the opening ceremony of Expo ’86. In 1998, Beau’s work was featured in the re-opening of Canada House in London.

His work can be found in the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Heard Museum (Phoenix), the Burke Museum (Seattle) and the Royal British Columbia Museum (Victoria). Many private and public art collections around the world feature the work of Beau Dick.
