Bentley, Norman

Heritage:

Norman Bentley was born in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii in 1968.

At the age of 12 Norman began to carve in wood and explore the art of his people. At the age of 20, Norman entered Vancouver’s prestigious Toni Cavelti Jewellery Apprenticeship Program and learned a wide variety of Jewellery techniques. Norman also completed an apprenticeship with Bill Reid in the early 1990s.

Norman is best known for his Jewellery designs containing cut-outs, which indicate the negative spaces in his work and help to accentuate his detailed carving.
