Brown, Noel

Noel Brown was born in Nanaimo, BC in March 1970.

Noel began carving in 1994. He received training and inspiration from James Lewis, a prominent Northwest Coast artist. He has also worked and learned from other talented individuals such as Richard Baker, James Baker and Darin Lewis.

Noel worked with wood for years before actual beginning to carve it. He has recently begun working in silver as well, a medium in which he has found much success. His style is traditionally Coast Salish and clean in design.

The City of Nanaimo commissioned Noel to carve two 15′ totem poles. Noel’s work can also be found in the band office in Nanaimo.
