Michels, James
Born in 1969, James was raised in Merritt, British Columbia and is an active member of the Penticton Metis Association. Extensive travel throughout Northwest Canada, observing the many traditions of different artists, fuelled James’ artistic interests and provided inspiration that is evident is his artwork today.
James apprenticed with Coast Salish artist Joseph Campbell and produces stunning wood panels and intricate bentwood boxes. His works are exhibited in some of the finest galleries in Canada and United States.
James has been commissioned and provided works for the Canadian Federal Government, the 2005 PGA Skins Game, former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, former US President Bill Clinton, singer Joni Mitchell and businessman Jim Pattison.
