Bulpitt, Corey

Heritage:

Corey Bulpitt was born in 1978, in Prince Rupert, British Columbia and hails from a long line of Haida artists.

Raised in Langley, British Columbia, Corey graduated from the Langley Fine Art School in 1996. Upon graduation, Corey moved to his traditional homeland, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) to apprentice with his uncle, renowned Haida master carver, Christian White for three years. Shortly after this time, Corey began his studies at the Museum of Anthropolgy in Vancouver with another uncle, master carver Jim Hart.

Corey has been specializing in masks, argillite sculptures, printmaking and Jewellery. In 2008, Corey was featured in “The Gathering” calendar, which highlights prominent First Nations artists working in British Columbia.

Corey is inspired by historic artwork by great Haida artists. Corey looks to the past for his present inspiration, but he also experiments with contemporary mediums and design elements.
