Bedard, William (Bill)

Bill belongs to the Raven Clan, he was born and raised in Haida Gwaii by his Grandparents in Old Massett. His grandfather was Chief William Matthews and he instilled strong traditional beliefs and knowledge of Haida heritage in his grandchildren.  Bill’s interest in art began when he was a young boy, as he was exposed to the vibrant arts community on the island.  One event that inspired Bill to explore and learn traditional Haida design and carving, was a Robert Davidson totem pole raising.  He is a largely self-taught jeweller and metalworker, who’s art reflects the tradition of the past while also bringing new perspectives into Haida art.
