Heritage — Inuit
Pitseolak Qimirpik was born in Iqaluit (Frobisher Bay) in 1986. Pitseolak began carving when he was 13 years old and has now been carving for almost ten years. In typical Inuit traditional, Pitseolak learned to carve from his father, Kelly Qimirpik.
Pitseolak is exceptional in that he shows his work to his parents, and the feedback he gets from his father only serves to make it better. He is not discouraged by his father’s frank evaluation because he sees himself carving for the rest of his life.
