Pudlalik Shaa was born in Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island on December 29, 1965. He is the son of renowned artist Axangayuk Shaa, RCA.
Pudlalik began carving at the age of 12 under the guidance of his father and other members of the local art community. He has supported himself through his art since the age of 17. Working in stone, mostly serpentine and marble, Pudlalik's work most often depicts wildlife. He is best known naturalistic birds and animals, often balanced on one foot. Unlike much of the youth today, he learned and used hand tools exclusively.
The work of Pudlalik Shaa can be found in fine art collections and galleries throughout Canada.
