Nujellia Tunnillie was born in Frobisher Bay, Nunavut on May 21, 1987. He now resides and works in Cape Dorsett on Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada.
Nujellia is an emerging artist from Cape Dorsett whose strong, simple, caricature-like forms result in stunning carvings. Working mostly in stone, Nujellia carves images of animals (bears, walruses, seals and birds), humans engaged in activities (berry picking, couples dancing) as well as traditional images (drum dancing, mother and child).
Nujellia began carving when he was 11 years old under the watchful eyes of his brother Ashevak and grandfather Qavaroak, both well established and renowned artists. His first piece was a seal which he sold for $7.
